Looking for people to collaborate in ZacPicto
Written by: Administrador Portal  the 2011-06-28 19:05:32

Today, we want send you a letter from John LeSieur, ZacPicto and ZacBrowser developer and in which we request collaborators for different tasks in Autism project:

"Dear friend,

I am a few days away from launching new software for autism called Zac Picto – The software will allow parents, therapists, doctors and other professionals to connect for the wellbeing of people with an autism spectrum disorder.

Zac Picto was started over 18 months ago with the intention of building one of the most powerful technologies for people with autism.  We have had the opportunity to impact the lives of over 2 million users with Zac Browser and it’s now the time to provide a tool for people involved in the well-being of someone on the spectrum.

We know there are currently multiple therapies available like ABA, Floortime, Sunrise, etc. and we suspect there will be many more solutions in the future.  That’s the reason that we’ve created Zac Picto to be neutral and supportive with any kind of therapy.

Zac Picto will offer a pictogram scheduler system that will display the schedule of someone with autism.  Zac Picto has the power to show social stories and even step by step tasks like brushing teeth and getting dressed.  The scheduler will also be the ultimate reminder for people taking medication and because we have built Zac Picto on collaborative technology it will be possible to connect with everyone involved.  Zac Picto can be used at home, in any classroom, and at the therapist or doctor’s office. For each activity it’s possible to save stats, save comments and follow progress.

We have also built within Zac Picto a very powerful activity system where it will be possible to acquire skills like emotion, social, academic, daily life, motor skills, etc.

We want to make sure that everyone has access to Zac Picto so it will be offered completely free of charge for parents, therapists, doctors, etc.
I am contacting you today to understand your level of interest in teaming up with us and making a huge impact for people with autism. There are many ways that you can help by giving a few minutes of your time. If we apply the principal of “paying forward” we can make this ambitious project a reality that will completely change the autism spectrum for generations to come.  I am looking for serious people who would like to contribute a little bit of their time and talents. We are making a first important step to change the world of autism for the better…. Would you like to join us?

Here are ways you can help…
If you have found one or multiple things you would like to do then please click here and fill out the form.  We will add you to the Autism Team and let you know what the next steps are.

I am looking forward to teaming up with you!

Thank you for all you do -
Kindest regards,
John LeSieur
President & CEO
People CD Inc."

We welcome any diffusion that you can make this news and the request of John. I also invite you to know what's going to be ZacPicto on its website: http://zacpicto.com/

Aragón Radio visits Alborada Special Education School to interview the children who write the news with pictograms
Written by: Administrador Portal  the 2011-07-20 19:00:45

As you may know from the blog entries, Twitter and Facebook, a year and half ago we started collaborating with Aragón Radio in the subtitling of news with pictograms in Aragón Radio 2 webpage, more precisely in the section called Noticias en SAAC (News in SAAC).

From the very beginning we were aware of the importance of this proposal as it's a pioneering experience in the world of mass media that may serve as an example to other media and institutions so that they became aware of the need to make information more accessible to all the people with communicative limitations.

In this case, furthermore, we've been lucky to coincide with professionals and, above all, great people, who show a special sensitivity towards people with special needs in their field of work. As an example, we recommend you one of their great programmes, Bandidos de la Hoya, which is developed by people with disabilities from CADIS Huesca.

Along this course, the children from Alborada Special Education School have collaborated subtitling news they have looked for, commented and adapted in the Media Workshops with their teachers, to whom we must also be really thankful for believing and collaborating in this project.

And here comes the great news...

As an acknowledgement to their great job along this academic year, next Wednesday 8th June, Aragón Radio will visit the school to interview the protagonists of this story: our boys and girls.

It will be in Carlos Espatolero's programme ESTA ES LA NUESTRA, from 12.00 to 14.00 hours, although in the previous programme we'll do one.

We have three groups who will talk in different connections from 12 to 13h

You can listen to the live programme at 102.4 or 94.9 FM or in www.aragonradio2.com.

Pictographic communicator (free hardware) with ARASAAC Pictograms
Written by: Administrador Portal  the 2012-06-27 11:52:59

Thanks to the Facebook of the Por dereito Association (Association for the integration of people with autism), which besides is a faithful collaborator and spreads everything generated in ARASAAC Portal, we have been able to discover this video, which opens a new channel for the emerging field of free hardware for communication.

It's about a free pictographic communicator, designed in the University of la Plata. All the the specifications about its design are free and public, allowing any person with knowledge in electronics to build, study and modify it.

This communicator has been created in the Final Professorship of the Engineering Faculty of the University of la Plata. The athors are the students Matías Tenti and Jorge Santillán, led by some engineers, among which we could highlight Antonio Sacco, who defined the functional specifications and advised them in the Technology and disabilities area.

You can access all the documentation in this link, included in the Documentation page of Antonio Sacco's web.

After the previous explanations, we can see how the communicator uses ARASAAC pictograms, thanks to their Creative Commons License.

From ARASAAC, we'd like to congratulate all the people implied in this project, which reopens new channels of investigation and development in the field of augmentative and alternative communication.

ARCON: Communicating through ARASAAC's pictograms and spoken phrases in Nintendo DS, Windows and Android
Written by: Administrador Portal  the 2012-06-27 11:18:35

Arcon Project is a free programme, lead by Lourdes Davara Rodríguez, which allows the communication through ARASAAC's pictograms and spoken phrases for people who, for any circumstance, can't express themselves orally. The use of the programme is very easy and intuitive.

The first screen contains one or some large chests or boxes. Each chest or box has concepts related to a topic which can be further on subgrouped in different chests or boxes. Each chest is identified with a color matching the frame of the concepts' images contained in that chest.

Arcon Project is aimed at:

The application can be run in Nintendo DS consoles and in mobile devices (Android) or computers through the implemented Flash version they have.

ARASAAC wants to congratulate all the team who has made this extraordinary project possible.
